Talk to them about the importance of budgeting, finding the best price for everything in the party, researching what you will do yourself versus hire help for, talk to them about the value of money and how much things should or shouldn’t cost. It’s actually a really good time to have a money conversation with your teen. Or, if you choose not to tell your teen the budget, at least tell them there there is a budget, and while you want to have a great party, it still needs to be reasonable and smart. Then you can talk with your teen about the budget for the party, and see what you can do within the realm of that. This is entirely up to the parents and how much you want to spend, but it’s important to decide on the budget together. Having a sweet sixteen can be a really great way to bond, find out their likes and interests, and just do something fun. It can’t always be about punishments and this or that, you need the fun and good times too. While they’re still under your roof, and that won’t be for much longer, I suggest that you have as much fun with them as possible.

A ‘Sweet Sixteen’ birthday party is a really a big deal for teenagers because it symbolizes a ‘coming of age,’ they’re able to drive, they’re starting to feel like adults, their body is changing, and they’ll be going off to college sooner than you think.
